Der Film zeigt den Aufstieg und Fall von der Musikband the Doors. Jim Morrison der Leadsänger von the Doors steht hier im Mittelpunkt, vor allem seine Drogenexzesse und seine Frauengeschichten.

Regisseur Oliver Stone zeigt Morrison ziemlich extrem, was Fans der Band natürlich verurteilen. Morrison war auf seine Art ein feinfühliger Rebell der mit dem Leben, wie es damals war, nicht zurecht kam. Und deshalb wohl eine Flucht bei den Drogen suchte. Auch wenn der Film nicht wirklich authentisch ist, so kommt er bestimmt ein wenig in die Nähe der realen Geschichte von Morrison. Die Schauspieler sind auf jeden Fall äusserst gut ausgesucht und machen ein hervorragendes Werk aus diesem Film! Der Soundtrack ist natürlich ein Stück Musikgeschichte!
