Die 15 jährige Sarah ist eifersüchtig auf ihren kleinen Stiefbruder, deshalb wünscht sie sich, der Koboldkönig solle ihn holen!
Dumm ist nur, der Koboldkönig hat es gehört! Der Bruder verschwindet und Sarah müsste es den Eltern erklären, doch nun erkennt sie, was sie getan hat. Deshalb will sie den Jungen vom König zurück, doch der denkt gar nicht daran! Im Gegenteil, er gibt ihr eine Prüfung auf, die sie in einer bestimmten Zeit hinter sich bringen muss – sie muss durch das Labyrinth des Königs! Doch in diesem Labyrinth lauern allerlei komische Gestalten...

Herrlicher Fantasyspass aus dem Hause Henson! Nach „der dunkle Kristall“ ist das der zweite Film, ausser den Muppets den Henson gedreht hat. Bowie gibt einen wunderbaren Koboldkönig ab, zudem darf er noch singen. Die Figuren im Film sind wunderbar exzentrisch und liebenswürdig gestaltet. Fazit: Diesen Film muss man immer wieder ansehen! Er ist einfach nur Kult!
 

Hintergrundinfos:
Gedreht wurde, unter anderem, in Buckinghamshire England. Das Produktionsbudget betrug zirka 25 Millionen $. Der Film basiert auf einer Story von Dennis Lee und Jim Henson.
