Die Animatrix ist in Wirklichkeit ein Episoden-Film. Neun Kurzfilme zeigen wie die Matrix überhaupt entstanden ist, alles sind Anime Filme, einige sind sehr gut in Szene gesetzt, andere ein wenig billig produziert. Dennoch, um die ganze Welt der Matrix verstehen zu können, sind die Filme der Animatrix wichtig, der ganze Aufbau, der Krieg mit den Maschinen und die Vernichtung der Menschheit, bis zur Entdeckung das die Wächter Zion bedrohen wird klar dargestellt!
 

Zu vergleichen mit „Matrix 01, 02, 03, 04“, „Animatrix (TV-Serie)“.
