Mel Brooks – Die verrückte Geschichte der Welt – History of the World, part I

Mel Brooks bringt dem Zuseher die Geschichte der Menschheit auf seine eigene Weise dar. Ob es die Steinzeitmenschen sind, die Musik oder die Schadenfreude erfinden. Moses der die 15 Gebote von Gott erhält, dabei aber eine Tafel fallen lässt und so nur 10 an seine „Schäfchen“ weitergibt. Oder er zeigt den dekadenten Cäsar und sein Imperium, das nur für Brot und Spiele lebt. Aus der Inquisition macht Brooks ein Musical. Zu guter letzt macht sich Brooks auch über die französische Revolution lustig, in der der Pisspage die Rolle mit dem echten König tauscht...

Mel Brooks in seiner Hochphase des makaberen Humors. In seinen frühen Filmen brauchte Brooks keine Fäkalwitze, im Gegenteil, hier kann punktet er mit Wortwitz und der Verarschung der jeweiligen Religionen. So nimmt Brooks kaum ein Blatt vor den Mund, was wohl gläubige Menschen als pietätlos betrachten würden. Och wenn man den Humor richtig ansieht, erkennt man, wie spitzsinnig die jeweiligen Anekdoten von Brooks in Szene gesetzt wurden! Die vielen Wortspiele kommen in der Originalfassung natürlich besser zur Geltung, da einige Wörter nicht richtig ins Deutsch übersetzt werden konnten. Fazit: Gut gemachte Komödie die mit viel Hinterwitz punktet!

Hintergrundinfos:
Die letzten Szenen wurden leider von der deutschen Synchronisation geschnitten. Darin sieht man eine Vorschau auf einen ausgedachten zweiten Teil: Hitler als Eiskunstläufer, Wikinger bei einem Begräbnis und Juden im Weltraum. Wahrscheinlich war der 2. Weltkrieg damals noch zu Nah, und deswegen dachte die Synchronisation wohl, man könne das dem Publikum nicht zumuten! Das Produktionsbudget betrug zirka 11 Millionen $.

Zu vergleichen mit „Die römische Kanone (mit Leslie Nielsen)“, "Asterix und Obelix Filmen".
